Set along the historic rail line just off Depot Square, 57 Freight Yard Way sits at the heart of Northfield’s original freight district — a neighborhood that grew up around the 1852 Central Vermont Railway Depot, believed to be the oldest surviving rail station in the state.
Northfield Village Developments is now giving the building a new purpose. The 4,260-square-foot structure is being converted into six two-bedroom residences. Sitting on just over half an acre with room for green space and parking, the property lies within Northfield’s Designated Village Center, a short walk from Main Street shops, the town common, and Norwich University.
The Residences
- Six two-bedroom homes, fully rebuilt from the studs out
- New windows and doors throughout, with larger openings that bring in natural light
- Custom-designed kitchens
- Individually metered units
- On-site parking and green space
- Town water service
- Steps from downtown Northfield and Norwich University
Completion is scheduled for June 1, 2027. The project brings much-needed quality housing to the village core and carries the story of Freight Yard Way into Northfield’s next chapter, where the town’s past and future meet.
